Otter Paintings & Drawings

My fascination with otters began years ago on a trip to the wild west coast of Scotland. Like so many unforgettable wildlife encounters, it was pure luck.

While hiking along a remote sea loch, I stopped to watch a hooded crow scavenging along the tide line. Suddenly, a glistening shape caught my eye—a sleek figure moving effortlessly over the rocks and beneath the kelp. The otter emerged onto a seaweed-covered boulder, pausing briefly to devour its catch before slipping silently back into the water and vanishing.

In that moment, I knew I had witnessed something truly magical. From then on, I was determined to study, sketch, and paint these enigmatic creatures, capturing their spirit and grace through my art.

The Story Behind ‘Otter Shores’

In 2011, I published my second solo book, Otter Shores, a celebration of these elusive animals and their coastal habitats. The book brings together years of fieldwork and artwork inspired by my encounters along Scotland's rugged shores.

Every painting and drawing in the collection is infused with the ever-changing drama of weather, light, and season, reflecting the dynamic world these charismatic creatures call home.
